In the past eight years, ICED provided technical assistance to a pipeline of 271 clean energy projects with a combined generating capacity of 3,025 megawatts (MW). Tetra Tech was contracted by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) to help Indonesia meet its ambitious low-emissions and renewable energy targets through the Indonesia Clean Energy Development (ICED) Project, which began in 2011 and runs through 2020. Now in its second phase, ICED is the centerpiece of USAID and Indonesia’s development support in the energy sector. To date, nearly 9,500 public and private sector professionals have been trained in such areas as geographic information system mapping, modeling, energy planning, new PLN requirements, and financing clean energy projects. Energy is the main contributor to climate change, it produces around 60 percent of greenhouse gases.More efficient energy standards could reduce building and industry electricity consumption by 14 percent.More than 40 percent of the world’s population—3 billion—rely on polluting and unhealthy fuels for cooking. As of 2015, more than 20 percent of power was generated through renewable sources. The renewable energy sector employed a record 10.3 million people in 2017.Solar panels enable better care and healthier communities.UNDP is responding to the most pressing issue we face as a species with what we hope will be the largest-ever global survey on climate change. Tetra Tech is assisting provinces in preparing their first long-term energy plans; developing and revising their plans for reducing greenhouse gas emissions from the energy sector; mapping village electricity access and the least-cost means of meeting unserved and underserved households; developing guidelines for interconnecting distributed renewable energy generation (<10 MW) to the national utility’s (PLN) medium-voltage distribution system, and providing technical and economic input to the first national rooftop solar PV regulation; and creating a framework for achieving Sustainable Development Goal #7 of clean and affordable energy. Between 2000 and 2016, the number of people with electricity increased from 78 to 87 percent, and the numbers without electricity dipped to just below one billion.Yet as the population continues to grow, so will the demand for cheap energy, and an economy reliant on fossil fuels is creating drastic changes to our climate.Investing in solar, wind and thermal power, improving energy productivity, and ensuring energy for all is vital if we are to achieve SDG 7 by 2030.Expanding infrastructure and upgrading technology to provide clean and more efficient energy in all countries will encourage growth and help the environment. Through the support Tetra Tech is providing, Indonesia is being set on a path to a clean energy future and is moving effectively toward its goal of meeting ambitious low-emissions and renewable energy targets. One in 7 people still lacks electricity, and most of them live in rural areas of the developing world. Indonesia Clean Energy Development Project. Clean Power Indonesia. Indonesia is the largest country in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), accounting for around two fifths of the region’s energy consumption. Welcome! Goal 7: Affordable and clean energy. ICED’s services include providing independent reviews of project feasibility studies, detailed engineering designs, equipment specifications, and construction practices; conducting energy efficiency and renewable energy technology demonstrations; analyzing the impacts of variable solar PV and wind power on transmission and distribution networks; and attracting debt and equity financing for on- and off-grid renewable energy projects.
