I've never seen something that makes my body feel different, or something that makes my heart skip a beat. and that’s all i have to say about thatIt may not appear so at first glance, but this is a Lynne Ramsay film through and through -- a heart wrenching, hyperviolent addition to her oeuvre of films focusing on the individual's psychological response and post-traumatic path subsequent to their environment's introduction of an unexpected and uncontrollable tragedy.
If quiet, internal acting is your bag, this film should be at the top of your must-see list. Phoenix would score a win for Joker but this is the film that deserved the focus.
| I did not feel as positively about You Were Never Really Here as most people seem to have, but I do absolutely recommend it. I am glad this film exists exactly as it does and words are going to fail me if I try and say anymore, so that'll be that for my thoughts.Joker fucking WISHES it could be this movie about a traumatized Joaquin Phoenix who lives with his elderly mother and is a hair’s breadth from snapping entirely in a cruel and senseless world.Pretty self-explanatory, "older films" must've come out at least 20 years ago. Wish it was more of the RATCATCHER/MOVERN CALLAR Ramsay and less the WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT KEVIN Ramsay.Really impressed with the cinematography by Thomas Townend, production design by Tim Grimes, editing by Joe Bini and of course the great score by Jonny Greenwood.A radical deconstruction of the action genre and what we've come to expect from our heroes. A traumatized veteran, unafraid of violence, tracks down missing girls for a living. [Phoenix], the mumbling master of smug self-indulgence, dons another layer of Emperor's new duds to favor us with a performance as subtle as a fart in a sardined elevator and twice as odiferous. Amazon Studios Joaquin Phoenix deserved more recognition for this film and it's his performance that cements the final product.
