I think PFF is underrating Josh Reynolds which is understandable… he hasn’t gotten much of a chance as of yet. 2 receiver one day, but he’ll need to really develop a lot in order to be a primary target on offense down the road. That’s not to say he can’t be a No. It would make Wilson even more dangerous. It won’t be because of any perceived deficiencies of athleticism or leaping ability.
Last year, when out of necessity head coach Sean McVay started utilizing the ‘12’ package (1-TB, 2-TEs, 2-WRs) more often, Kupp was the receiver pulled and as a consequence, his second half production wasn’t anywhere close to his first half. If… the Rams choose to utilize their ‘12’ package more this season and like last year make Tyler Higbee a bigger part of the offense, Kupp’s production might just decrease enough to make it more possible to re-sign him. 1 receiver because he does have similarities to Keenan Allen, Woods and Kupp, but he doesn’t have elite speed, leaping ability or athleticism.Even though Jefferson didn’t run the 40 at the combine due to him recovering from a foot injury, the Rams tracked him via GPS at the Senior Bowl which showed him to be the faster than Denzil Mims who ran a 4.38 and Devin Duvernay and Antonio Gibson, who both ran a 4.39 at the combine. Somebody needs to get in Goff’s ear this year and tell him the more he uses Higbee, the more likely Kupp will be around for another 4-years.That’s not to say he [Jefferson] can’t be a No.
He also added one in the NFC Championship two seasons ago, which helped set up Greg Zuerlein’s game-winning field goal.Johnson has excellent ball skills for a safety and his seven interceptions are even more impressive when you consider he missed 10 games in 2019. I think he will be the surprise receiver for the Rams, much the way Kupp was. There are multiple paths for the team to prevent that from happening, such as using the franchise tag or simply signing him to a contract extension. But this season will be the final year of his rookie deal, making him a free agent in 2021. And as we all know, once a player gets to the open market, it can become an all-out bidding war – especially for a player of Kupp’s caliber. One of the biggest hurdles standing in the Rams’ way is the salary cap, which...No player on the Los Angeles Rams has more interceptions since 2017 than safety John Johnson. Re-signing Jalen Ramsey will be the team’s primary objective and financial commitment so there is real threat to losing Kupp next off season especially if he has another 1000+ yards 9-11 TD season. When you’re one injury away from catastrophe that’s called being thin at the position and when you’re thin someplace I don’t think you can say they “didn’t have a pressing need”. PFF: Van Jefferson is in 'as good a situation as he could have hoped for' ... Cooper Kupp, and Josh Reynolds. The Rams line up in ‘11’ personnel packages (1-RB, 1-TE, 3-WRs) more than any other team in the league, it’s their bread-and-butter formation, so if any of the receivers got hurt and got sidelined for any length of time the team would find themselves in a very bad position they couldn’t climb out from under. Cooper Kupp and Josh Reynolds will both be free agents in 2021, so with Jefferson now on the team, they’re prepared to lose one of the two and still have good depth at wideout.Jefferson probably won’t contribute much as a rookie unless he blows Reynolds out of the water in their camp competition, but he’ll be in the mix for a starting job in Year 2, most likely. Latest on WR Josh Reynolds including news, stats, videos, highlights and more on NFL.com I am sure he had good coaching from his father. “Josh Reynolds had quite the performance in the NFC Championship – can he have as big an impact in the Super Bowl?” “Josh Reynolds leads the SEC with 219 receiving yards on passes traveling 20+yards downfield https://t.co/MOZUWvMF1C” Faster than a 4.38 IS “elite speed”.Van Jefferson didn’t run a 40-yard dash, but he is plenty fast.Neither Keenan Allen, Woods or Kupp, has leaping ability or athleticism. On the contrary… building just the least amount of depth so that your season does’t get wrecked due to a single concussion or sprained ankle could and should be categorized as a “pressing need.”Cooper Kupp and Josh Reynolds will both be free agents in 2021, so with Jefferson now on the team, they’re prepared to lose one of the two and still have good depth at wideout.By drafting Jefferson, the Rams have good depth THIS SEASON but should they lose either Kupp or Reynolds they’ll be thin at the position again next year.
(Photo by Bob Levey/Getty Images)Reynolds has a very similar build to Matthews, and a similar style of play as well. But what he and now Jefferson share in common is “opportunity”.
Jefferson has a chance to learn from two outstanding route runners in Kupp and Robert Woods, which will only help him perfect his craft even more. Like Matthews, Reynolds is a long stride receiver, which makes him more effective in a deep threat role than an in-and-out breaking receiver. https://theramswire.usatoday.com/2020/05/24/nfl-rams-van-jefferson-pff-situation/ NFL and PFF player stats for Los Angeles Rams WR Josh Reynolds on Pro Football Focus.
