Gerstle Cove campground is situated atop the coastal bluffs on the ocean side of Highway One and offers 30 family campsites.
Salt Point State Park has breathtaking bluff trail hikes, mostly flat, that provide you with one beautiful cove or rock outcropping after another. Rocky promontories, panoramic views, kelp-dotted coves, and the dramatic sounds of pounding surf; open grasslands, forested hills, pristine prairies, and pygmy forests—you can experience all of these coastal wonders within the Salt Point State Park. Its 6,000 acres of rugged beauty, range of terrain and biotic zones, and variety of uses, all accessible via 20 miles of hiking trails and 6 miles of coast, make this park the premier experience of the Sonoma County coast.The majority of the park is covered in forests of redwood, tanoak, pine and fir, with the balance split between grassland meadows and brush.

The rocks at Gerstle Cove still hold eyebolts where the ships anchored while sandstone slabs were loaded aboard ships. This was a perfect place to do so. Site 9 was the closest to the ocean view/trail and we could hear the ocean at night and not the hwy 1 traffic.There are no showers, but do have water spigots and flush toilets with sink and an electrical outlet. Check the official websites for the latest restrictions or closure information for the park you are interested in. While many of the campsites in Woodside Campground are pretty private as it is, there are 20 walk-in campsites within the campground that can offer some additional privacy. Park Overview: Salt Point is a favorite spot for hikers, campers and abalone divers, alike. There is no phone service or internet at the campground itself but you can get that by going down to the visitor center/day use area and it's there. Salt Point State Park has a $8 day use fee for vehicles entering the park (as of March 2017). It was reasonable and fit our needs, however I would have enjoyed it more if everyone was quiet by quiet hours, rather than continuing to be chatting, riding scooters, kids playing, etc.
