1 star for the script.5 stars for acting and style. Still, great acting! Bill Nighy is great in this trilogy. Bill Nighy creates such a sweet, loving person -- one cannot help but care about him and those he protects.

This is a spy story with an ex-spy moving around to stay out of the way of the Prime Minister, who wants a file he took. This psychological/political thriller was one of the best series I've seen in a long, long time. Directed by David Hare. Thank you! The story is engrossing and appreciated because it doesn't depend on slam bang action, violence, or sex. Frankly, the file's importance disappears as the season ends, but the travels and interactions are funny, if you like dry British writing and a fantastic delivery by the star. If you enjoy the espionage genre, go watch! I was surprised along the way by some of the results. To have Mister Walken involved only raised the bar of presentation. And third, the locales are weaved into the story in a very interesting way. You'll really enjoy the story, the very British-ness of the humor and writing. This series is so well done. But he makes them feel comfortable, and somehow despite the age differences Nighy doesn't make it look like a father/daughter type of thing. I love this genre and the actors involved, but I can't enjoy this seriesReviewed in the United States on September 24, 2017 Your recently viewed items and featured recommendations Helena Bonham Carter, always so excellent, and so Fiennes makes an understated but powerful short entry as Britain's PM. Really an attempt to claim interesting territory but none delivered. I liked the different locales and the various home grown people. Disabling it will result in some disabled or missing features. I'm sure I'll watch this again. This was an extraordinary show and I would highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys British productions. In terms of tone, there’s more Raymond Chandler than John Le Carre in these understated surroundings, where never a shot is fired nor punch thrown. All the actors are uniformly great, especially Bill Nighy.5 stars for acting and style. I really enjoyed this series of "spy" thrillers.

To top it all, the themes (e.g., in a "terrorism world" how do the security services and the president/prime minister relate for the benefit of the citizens?)

The cast and writing were tremendous. Actually, as pronounced by the actor Bill Nighy, the words are deliciously rich in irony and elliptical portent. It has destroyed his marriage and estranged his only child, and now it is on the verge of bringing down the British government.

His activities, meanwhile, continue to nettle the Prime Minister (Fiennes), whose determination to protect the country raises troubling questions — as familiar in the U.S. as they are in the U.K. — about sacrifices in the name of security.Hare isn’t above mounting a soapbox to convey these points, but happily, his surrogates are so articulate and witty — beginning with Nighy, whose voice seldom rises above a soothing whisper — that the lecture goes down smoothly, and the story progresses from one movie into the next as an almost seamless thread. In the press materials, Hare is quoted as saying his approach to the movies was that “heavy subject matter should be presented very lightly,” while seeking to impress the view that the intelligence apparatus is “out of control.”The filmmaker’s politics won’t appeal to everyone, and will probably reinforce perceptions of PBS as a liberal mouthpiece.

From the recap interviews from the cast and production team it souinds like there are no planned follow on episodes which, in my opinion is a real shame. Wish I could. Its fun to find a well written spy drama set in the modern era of the war on terrorism with no guns, explosions, or car chases - just political maneuvering, dirty money (a tautology) and hidden agendas. Johnny Worricker is as charming a spy as you're ever likely to meet! Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for The Worricker Trilogy [DVD] [2013] at Amazon.com. It's not a fire and brimstone, car chasing type of spy film, it's realistic, nuanced, and relevant. I really enjoyed this series of "spy" thrillers. Nighy, the star of the show, has a string of brunette beauties who don't particularly want to bed him but they aren't too sure, so they keep tempting him. With all the outstanding stars in this series, I felt like I was watching a first class movie instead of television. Christopher Walken is a little off as the American operative. Great stuff! I returned them for a refund.
