The selection of food will please anyone’s palate and every meal is phenomenal. The table was beautifully set, and each course was delicious, imaginative, and beautifully plated. The next closest building to the Main Lodge is Eagle's Nest, just across the driveway circle, containing three rooms (two with large second-floor decks) as well as The Pub on the ground floor, where an antique safe holds wooden Stave puzzles that guests can take to their rooms. The communal dining here makes perfect sense given the small number of guests and was completely comfortable. The Point is designated as the only Forbes Five Star property in Upstate New York as well as the first Relais & Châteaux member of North America 35 years ago.Built by William Avery Rockefeller II a century ago, the fanciful log mansions, crafted of native timber and stone, personified the 19th Century romantic notion  of “roughing it” in great comfort, style and luxury.

Being an original Rockefeller property, the owners have lovingly and meticulously retained the persona of rustic elegance. The four rooms in the Main Lodge are the coziest and most convenient to meals, as the dining room (the "Great Hall") is in the center of this building. Each meal is an event, each day an adventure, each night a celebration. We feel that these things, combined with the wonderful caring staff and high level of service, put The Point at the very top of the list of the finest small resorts in the U.S. -- it's certainly our new favorite. Although this was a romantic getaway, I could also envision The Point as being an excellent site for executive strategic planning sessions, where you need to clear your head to plan for the future, or family get togethers where you could enjoy the peaceful location while packing your day with fun activities. During our visit about half of the guests were first-timers like us, and the other half were returning after one or many prior stays; their ages ranged from early 30s to 70s-plus. Thank you for highlighting the services provided by our staff. This is an estate steeped in history. A Great Camp of the Great North Woods, built by William Avery Rockefeller a century ago as his family’s private home. The intimate setting and the traditional communal dining is the dream of any adult’s “camp getaway.” The location provides an opportunity to tailor your stay to whatever you want to do.

The family style meals in old "camp" fashion were lovely. The Point is truly a special place. In addition, the quality of the food here exceeds that at any other resort we've visited: it's simply superb thanks to an exceptionally talented chef. Rooms/cottages are beautifully appointed and incredibly comfortable. We recommend calling ahead to confirm details. Swimming, fishing, boating, water skiing, kayaking, hiking, tennis, croquet, pool and just plain relaxing. A bit farther away and set slightly into the woods is The Guest House, also with three rooms. The Point has many long standing traditions but communal dining is by far one of our guests’ favorites.
