We got a bit lost, even though we had a map and there are plenty of markers, and somehow ended up in Sunol near the train station.

I was reminded of Wuthering Heights.You can enjoy very "East Bay" things here. A selection of replicate Indian artifacts, cultural and natural history books, nature study items, wildflower seed packet, trail permits and topographical maps and other items are for sale at the sales counter. It comprises 290 acres, and is administered by East Bay Regional Park District. Great boulders of greenstone, schist and metachert indicate a turbulent past. The plants in these thousands of acres of parkland never gets to re-seed itself and everything's severely overgrazed.

Birding is superb along Alameda Creek with acorn woodpecker, black phoebe, titmouse, turkey vulture, and golden eagle commonly sighted. There are some areas with steeper incline, but the trails overall are manageable. We fall in love with it since it is very green, ground is soft after the rain and FREE parking. Originally home to the Ohlone and Bay Miwok, it was established as a preserve in 1986. Sunol Visitor Center CLOSED “NO Swimming” is ENFORCED ; Temescal Regional Recreation Area. They seem pretty docile but when startled they run and they are fast. It's up, flat, up , flat.....Beautiful regional park with miles of trails! I brought my dog and enjoyed the trails and friendly people.
