Harding Truck Trail was closed. It’s pretty much uphill the entire way. RECOMMENDED ROUTE The trail offers a number of activity options and is best used from March until October. I want to go back and see Santiago Peak which was another 1.5 miles up but didn’t think I would have enough time to make it down before dark. Uneven terrain with small rocks or roots.Steep.

We took 11 hours and 9 of that was hiking. 2h 50m More difficult than expected because of lots of rocks. Really just did this as climbing Santiago Peak was on my bucket list, don’t need to ever do it again! The downhill is over quickly and you start climbing again. Sunscreen too is an obvious thing to pack.

We took headlamps too as we started in the dark and the last 2 hours we had to finish in the dark, which I would not recommend, poor judgement on our part and was awful! We move pretty quick on the trails averaging 21 minutes per mile going up and 18 going down. I spotted what looked like tarantula hawks flying around the higher elevations.
I had to move to the side of the trail to let them pass but everyone was extremely courteous and friendly. The route starts on Harding Truck Trail located just beyond the wildlife sanctuary building. We started around 6 am and the sun is relentless.

It has gradual uphill and starts at low enough elevation. The trail head begins at the Harding Truck Trail entrance near the tucker Wildlife Sanctuary close to the end of Modjeska Canyon Road, so it’s easy to find. Did this one twice. Didn't realize we had those out here in the O.C. I started off around 6:30, chasing the fog up the mountain. Technical terrain with no alternate lines.Moderately steep. One side will be more dominant than the other. (Apparently, there were as we came across some people at the top who came up a different way). Help improve this information. Great vibes all day and it was a joy to see everyone so stoked on being up there in the mountains having fun. The Harding Truck Trail lives up to its name - it's hard. Very rewarding. If you’re parking in Modjeska you may need to display in your car a Cleveland national forest pass which we already had. Passed a few hikers early in the morning but ran solo the rest of the time for 10 miles.
